Western Red Ceder in Fog
When fog settles into the forest an amazing transformation happens. Through the enveloping mist, trees begin to display their own personality. Their forms, no longer blending into the complexities of the forest, become a study in outline and texture. I had walked and ran past this scene many times, not once seeing the slightest potential for a photograph. While on a walk one particularly foggy morning, the curved branches of this dead Western Red Ceder really caught my eye. Using my medium telephoto to further isolate and compress the scene, I juxtaposed the twisting ceder with the contrasting verticals of trees directly behind, Forest Park, Portland, Oregon
