Desert Lands
Having grown up in the lush Willamette Valley of Oregon, I wasn't immediately drawn to our desert lands. I felt most comfortable exploring our coastlines, forests and glaciated peaks. Over the years, however, there has been a reversal. Most often it's the stark beauty of the drier regions that pull me. I love the harshness, the amazing geology laid bare and the highly adapted nature of the ecosystems. It's become my favorite place to escape to when the winter rains and snows have there grip on the windward side of the mountains. For now, this gallery is mostly limited to Oregon - but to be honest I would be very content only photographing the diversity of the Oregon desert the rest of my life.
