Circumhorizontal Arc

This atmospheric phenomenon appeared during a climb up Washington's, Mount Adams. The horizontal looking rainbow is actually an ice halo, formed by hexagonal, plate shaped ice crystals in high level cirrus clouds. The halo is so large that the lower portion of the arc appears level with the horizon. Iris

Iridescent clouds are one of those unusual atmospheric phenomenons that I pay close attention to on my trips. They're sometimes hard to view as they most often form near the sun. Sunglasses and/or using something to block the sun helps. The colors in the clouds are the result of water or ice particals scattering the light as it passes through. When the droplets are uniform in size the effect is seen as colorful pastels. Find the Rainbow

Moondragon

As a youth I delighted in gazing up at the sky and finding various shapes and animals in the clouds as they floated by.
