Beginning Anew

For a few weeks each spring the landscape surrounding the Painted Hills of Central Oregon comes to life with an amazing display of wildflowers. Until the spring of 2010 I had always missed the peak bloom. I was pretty excited this time around when I realized my timing was about right. After camping out a little ways away I arrived at this spot early the next morning. My first few shots were with my 8 x 10 view camera. As morning light began to make its way over the landscape I saw this photo opportunity developing. I was unable to set my 8 x 10 up in time so I grabbed my 35mm and rendered this image just as this distant hill came to life with sunlight. John Day Fossil Beds, Oregon
