In 2003 I thru-hiked and photographed the 2650 mile
Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Beginning at the Mexico-California border, the PCT passes through 24 national forests, seven national parks and 33 wilderness areas before ending at the Canadian border. I began my hike in April at the southern terminus and finished in late September, 100 miles south of the Canadian border. To walk the entire trail from border to border in one season, one has to average about 20 miles per day. I generally hiked between 15 and 35 miles per day depending on the terrain, weather, scenery, and quality of light for photography. The base weight of my pack, without food and photo gear, was around 8lbs. My photo gear was another 8lbs - a very light setup, but still plenty heavy when you have to carry it for 5 months. The images showcased within this gallery represent some of my favorites from my time spent on the trail. Enjoy!
